4 Oktober / Christen lewe gekenmerk deur selfbeheersing / Handelinge 24:25

Paulus het met hom gepraat oor ’n lewe in gehoorsaamheid aan God, oor selfbeheersing en oor die komende oordeel. Dit het Feliks laat bang word, en hy het gesê: “Dit is nou genoeg! Gaan maar terug, en as ek tyd het, sal ek jou weer laat roep.” - Hand. 24:25

Dit is interessant dat Paulus na 3 elemente verwys terwyl hy met Feliks praat. Gehoorsaamheid aan God, selfbeheersing en die komende oordeel was die 3 elemente wat na die Christen lewe verwys in hierdie teks. Dit is natuurlik nie die enigste elemente nie, maar Paulus het hierdie 3 elemente uitgelig omdat dit in kontras was met 3 areas vam Feliks se persoonlike leefstyl waar Feliks baie gesukkel het.

Ek haal 'n gedeelte direk aan vanuit die Bible Knowledge Commentary wat nogals interessant is:

Felix must have taken a brief trip with his wife, Drusilla. When they returned, Felix sent for Paul who spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. Felix was brought under conviction when Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come. Well he should, for his marriage to Drusilla was his third and he had to break up another marriage to secure her. His regime was marked by injustices that contrasted with the righteousness of God. And he was a man grossly lacking in self-control.
The duplicity and greed of Felix is seen in his desire to be bribed by Paul.
